A 38-year-old father and mechanic is now behind bars after a heated argument over a children's quarrel escalated into gun violence in Liloan, Cebu. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Sityo Curva, Barangay San Vicente, saw the suspect, identified only as alias Ar-ar, fire a weapon before it was wrestled away by other residents.
From Child's Play to Adult Confrontation
The chain of events began with a dispute between children. In response, the father of the other child, a fellow mechanic known as alias Mario, confronted Ar-ar's mother to address the issue involving their kids. According to the investigation by the Liloan Police Station, Ar-ar overheard this discussion, which quickly turned into a heated argument between the two men.
The situation turned physical when Ar-ar allegedly punched Mario in the jaw. This act of violence ignited a full-blown fight between the two fathers, pushing the conflict to a dangerous new level.
Gun Drawn and Fired in Residential Area
In a drastic escalation, Ar-ar reportedly retrieved a firearm and discharged the weapon. The sound of gunfire in the residential neighborhood immediately raised the stakes, putting bystanders at risk.
However, quick intervention from two other mechanics present at the scene prevented further tragedy. They bravely stepped in to disarm Ar-ar, initiating a struggle for control of the weapon. Ar-ar's own father also joined the effort to subdue his son and seize the gun.
The armed suspect attempted to flee the scene, but the two mechanics pursued him, successfully recovering the firearm and effectively disarming him.
Arrest and Charges for Illegal Possession
Following the disarming, authorities were called, and Ar-ar was taken to the Liloan Police Station. A critical detail emerged during processing: the suspect could not present any documents proving legal ownership of the firearm. This failure led to his immediate detention on serious charges related to the illegal discharge and possession of a weapon.
The case highlights how quickly personal disputes, especially those involving family, can spiral out of control and lead to severe legal consequences. The Liloan police continue their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the origin of the unregistered firearm.
