A 35-year-old construction worker was found lifeless inside his rented room in Cebu City, with initial investigations by local police indicating no signs of criminal involvement.
Discovery and Initial Report
The body of Vincent Jalique, a native of Butuan City who was temporarily residing in the area, was discovered in Sityo Apple, Barangay Cogon Pardo. The grim discovery was made by a relative on the morning of December 1, 2025. The concerned family member personally reported the incident to the Inayawan Police Station at approximately 11:00 AM that same day.
According to the official report, the relative found Jalique lying motionless on the floor inside his room. He was already unresponsive at the time of discovery.
Police Investigation and Family's Account
Responding personnel from the Inayawan Police Station immediately conducted an ocular investigation at the scene. Based on their initial assessment, Jalique had likely been dead for more than five hours before he was found, as his body had already begun to stiffen.
In their statements to the police, family members revealed that the deceased had a pre-existing medical condition. Jalique was known to suffer from high blood pressure and was a frequent consumer of energy drinks. Given this history, his family believes a sudden medical attack related to his condition may have led to his untimely death.
Authorities Find No Evidence of Crime
The Cebu City police have been clear in their preliminary findings. Investigators did not find any signs of foul play at the scene. The absence of forced entry, struggle, or other suspicious circumstances has led them to treat the case as a non-criminal incident pending final results from a medico-legal examination.
The case highlights concerns about health awareness among laborers and the potential risks associated with unmanaged conditions. The police have turned over the remains to the grieving family for proper burial arrangements.
