The municipality of San Fernando in Cebu is witnessing a period of significant transformation under the leadership of Mayor Mytha Ann B. Canoy. Since assuming office in July 2022, her administration has been marked by a series of strategic projects focused on education, community development, and infrastructure, solidifying the town's status as a first-class municipality.
Building Pathways to Education Through Unity
A cornerstone of this progress is the development of the San Fernando Educational Hub. A major breakthrough came when the Corominas family donated land to create a vital access road to the area. With the determined support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) led by Mayor Canoy, construction began promptly. The new road now provides a safer, more comfortable, and easier route for students, teachers, parents, and visitors, demonstrating the power of collaboration between the private and public sectors.
Furthering her vision for educational advancement, Mayor Canoy prioritized the construction of a modern three-story building with six classrooms for Cebu Technological University (CTU) San Fernando. This project, funded by the Province of Cebu, addresses a long-standing need for higher education facilities in the town. To ensure the hub's functionality, she also worked to upgrade the electrical lines from one-phase to three-phase through VECO. This upgrade provides a stable power supply, enabling more effective use of laboratories, classroom technology, and other equipment.
Institutional Strengthening and Broader Development
Mayor Canoy's support extends beyond physical infrastructure. She actively endorsed the conversion of CTU San Fernando into a CTU Satellite Campus. This move gained legislative traction with House Bill Number 4658, filed by Congresswoman Rhea Mae A. Gullas on September 18, 2025, which is now awaiting its first hearing. Additionally, she facilitated a donation of 150 sacks of cement from Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) to benefit the university's ongoing infrastructure projects.
"Her view of education is not just a project, but a mission for the youth," the report highlights, noting her personal and municipal-level support for CTU's operations and growth.
Revitalizing Community Infrastructure
The administration's drive for progress encompasses the entire community. Following a fire, work has begun on a new modern Public Market (Mercado Público), which promises a cleaner, more organized, and modern trading center for residents. Other completed projects include the renovation of the municipal gymnasium, making it more suitable for large events, and the construction of an Evacuation Center/Multipurpose Building within the Educational Hub. This new facility will serve not only during emergencies but also as a venue for school activities, seminars, and trainings.
Through these multifaceted efforts, Mayor Mytha Ann B. Canoy is cementing her reputation as a dedicated and effective leader, steering San Fernando toward a future of sustained growth and improved quality of life for its citizens.
