Tragic Accident Claims Life of Senior Citizen in Maribojoc

A 68-year-old man died in a tragic accident after falling into a deep pit in Purok 6, Barangay Bayacabac, Maribojoc, Bohol. The incident occurred at around 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

The victim was identified as Raymundo Lasaca, 68, a resident of the same area. According to the investigation by the Maribojoc Municipal Police Station, Lasaca had left his home earlier to drink alcoholic beverages with his neighbors.

Discovery and Investigation

After the drinking session, Lasaca failed to return home. His body was later discovered by his nephew at 4:50 PM, already lifeless at the bottom of a deep, narrow pit.

Police investigators, led by Police Master Sergeant Esmeraldo Relova Jr., believe that the senior citizen stumbled and fell into the hole while walking home. The pit, estimated to be 12 feet deep, was located very close to his own residence.

Authorities confirmed that there was no foul play involved in his death. A doctor from the Maribojoc Rural Health Unit was called to the scene and verified the initial findings.

Unsecured Pit and Fatal Injuries

The investigation revealed that the hazardous pit was reportedly dug by the victim himself. He was allegedly engaged in treasure hunting activities and had failed to install any protective barrier or fence around the excavation.

The fatal injury was a severe head wound sustained from the fall, which caused his immediate death. This tragic incident highlights the dangers of unsecured excavations, especially in residential areas.
