The Boston Celtics have executed a blockbuster trade, sending All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for former All-NBA veteran Paul George and four draft picks, according to league sources.
Trade Details
Under the terms of the agreement, the Celtics will also receive two second-round picks from the 76ers (2028 and 2030) along with two first-round picks: a 2028 pick that may be swapped for a more favorable selection, and an unprotected 2031 first-round pick. Brown, 29, averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Brown was originally seen as a key asset in the Celtics' pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. However, those efforts failed after the Bucks decided to trade Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. With Antetokounmpo off the table, many believed Brown would remain with the Celtics as a cornerstone player, but Boston had other plans.
Paul George's Impact
George, 36, played last season for the 76ers after stints with the Indiana Pacers (2010-17), Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-19), and Los Angeles Clippers (2019-24). His time in Philadelphia was hampered by injuries and a 25-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, limiting him to just 37 games. Over his 16-season career, George, a nine-time All-Star, has averaged 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
Starting next season, Brown will team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey to lead the 76ers, while George will join Jayson Tatum and Derrick White to lead the Celtics. The trade reshapes the balance of power in the Eastern Conference, with both teams aiming for championship contention.
