Police in Danao City, Cebu, have apprehended a single mother in a targeted operation against illegal numbers game activity. The arrest occurred during a bet-bust sting on Thursday evening, January 8, 2026.
Undercover Operation Leads to Arrest
The suspect, identified by the alias "Merci," aged 34, was taken into custody in Purok 2, Barangay Tuburan Sur. According to reports from the Danao Police Station's Intel Personnel, the operation was launched following verified information about ongoing illegal gambling in the area.
An undercover police officer posed as a bettor and approached the suspect, who was allegedly working as an usher for the illegal "swertres" operation. The officer placed a bet on the combination #316 worth P20. The moment "Merci" issued the corresponding gambling stub, the signal was given for her arrest.
Evidence Confiscated from the Scene
Authorities recovered several pieces of evidence from the suspect at the scene. The seized items included:
- Various illegal gambling paraphernalia.
- P70.00 in cash believed to be proceeds from bets.
- The specific gambling stub issued to the undercover police officer.
The Danao Police described the arrest as a success, stating it contributes to the reduction of illegal gambling activities in Barangay Tuburan Sur. Such operations form a key part of their campaign to curb unlawful games of chance in the community.

The suspect is currently detained at the police station lockup. She is set to face charges for violating Presidential Decree No. 1602, the law that penalizes illegal gambling in the Philippines.
