Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong and Kabataan Rep. Renee Co have been designated as the official spokespersons of the House of Representatives for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate. This was confirmed by Lead Prosecutor Jinky Luistro during a press conference on Tuesday, May 19.
According to Luistro, the two lawmakers will handle the statements for the prosecution panel of the lower house. Adiong, who also chairs the House committee on suffrage and is a prominent member of the "Young Guns" bloc, vowed to present evidence with clarity, fairness, and transparency in the public interest.
Meanwhile, Co, one of the youngest lawmakers from the minority and Makabayan bloc, stated that she will focus on explaining the accountability process and the significance of the trial to the public, especially the youth.
Duterte faces accusations of misuse of funds, bribery, unexplained wealth, and threats against the lives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez. The Senate trial will be the Vice President's final formal platform to defend herself before senators decide whether the evidence is sufficient to remove her from office.
