Senator Bam Aquino Calls for Investigation into Senate Shooting
Manila – Senator Bam Aquino has filed Senate Resolution No. 397, calling for an investigation into the shooting incident that occurred within the Senate premises on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The resolution aims to review the adequacy of security protocols and communication systems following the incident, as well as to determine accountability.
In a statement, Aquino urged the public to remain vigilant and not allow attention to be diverted by political turmoil, especially amid the severe economic crisis gripping the nation. He emphasized the need to ensure that the country's leaders remain focused on the real crisis: the rising prices of petroleum and basic commodities.
Warning Against Political Distraction
The senator warned that excessive focus on politics could lead to neglect of economic issues, particularly the growing concern over the price of rice, which could reach PHP 64 per kilogram by July. He stressed that his resolution is intended to address security lapses and improve communication systems, not to fuel political distractions.
Aquino's call comes at a time of significant political developments, including the election of Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Senate President and the House of Representatives' decision to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. The senator urged the public to remain watchful and ensure that leaders prioritize the economic hardships faced by Filipinos.
