Senator Bam Aquino has filed Senate Resolution 397, calling for an investigation into the shooting incident that occurred within the Senate premises on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. He urged the public to remain vigilant and not let attention be diverted by political turmoil amid the severe economic crisis facing the nation.
Aquino emphasized the need for leaders to stay focused on the real crisis, including rising fuel prices and basic commodities. He warned that excessive focus on politics could lead to neglect of economic issues, particularly concerns over rice prices potentially reaching PHP 64 per kilogram by July.
The senator explained that his resolution aims to review deficiencies in security protocols and communication systems following the incident, as well as determine accountability.
Meanwhile, Alan Peter Cayetano was elected as the new Senate President, while the House of Representatives voted in favor of impeaching Vice President Sara Duterte. Aquino reminded his colleagues not to let the new political alliance paralyze their duties when the Articles of Impeachment reach the Senate.
