BARMM Advances Centralized Government Centers Project in Eight New Municipalities

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is moving forward with an ambitious initiative to establish centralized municipal government centers across the eight newly created municipalities within its Special Geographic Area (SGA). This strategic project is designed to significantly improve service delivery and strengthen local governance structures for residents in these communities.

Final Preparations Underway for Construction

The Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) – SGA Field Office is currently in the final stages of preparation for this important infrastructure endeavor. Officials are actively conducting site validations and completing all necessary documentary requirements to ensure construction can proceed without unnecessary delays.

MILG-SGA Field Office Head Zaiton Abas emphasized that the project aims to institutionalize efficient local governance while making government services more accessible to residents who have historically faced challenges accessing multiple government offices scattered across different locations.

One-Stop Shop Approach to Government Services

"The municipal government center will serve as a comprehensive hub where—in addition to the municipal hall—various BARMM government agencies can establish their field offices," Abas explained in a detailed statement. "This creates a strategic one-stop shop for the public, eliminating the need for residents to travel to multiple locations to access different government services."

On Wednesday, February 25, MILG officials alongside local government representatives conducted a thorough inspection of the proposed site for the government center in Kadayangan Municipality. During this visit, they discussed specific actions required from local government units to expedite procurement processes and initiate construction as quickly as possible.

Accelerating Project Implementation

In alignment with the directive from BARMM interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua to fast-track the project, local government units have been strongly urged to immediately complete their documentary requirements. These essential documents include:

  • A formal deed of donation for the land, ideally covering three to five hectares
  • A comprehensive site development plan
  • Appropriate municipal resolutions
  • Various other prerequisites necessary for project approval

Standardized Design and Funding Allocation

Abas revealed that each municipal hall will receive funding of P30 million and will follow the MILG's standardized architectural design. This design has already been successfully implemented in other municipalities across BARMM, ensuring consistency and efficiency in construction while maintaining quality standards.

The centralized government centers represent a significant step forward in BARMM's ongoing efforts to enhance governance and public service accessibility. By consolidating government offices into strategic locations, the region aims to reduce administrative burdens on residents while creating more efficient systems for local governance that can better serve community needs.
