Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has pledged to remain impartial in his role as a senator-judge in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. This follows his oath-taking along with 22 other senators as senator-judges and the convening of the Senate as an Impeachment Court on Monday, May 18, 2026.
In his statement, Go emphasized that the primary goal is to uncover the truth in the case. “I will be impartial, but the truth must come out. The truth is what matters here. That is what the Filipino people are waiting for—the truth,” Go said.
He added that the process aims to challenge or clarify alleged falsehoods that emerged during the House deliberations on the articles of impeachment against the Vice President. “If I see a liar—that’s why I didn’t speak in the past few days—if I see someone lying in the presentations, I will call them a liar,” Go explained.
According to the senator, this is also an opportunity for him to ask questions and make a decision regarding the impeachment case. “This is my chance to ask questions and decide,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Senate has issued a writ of summons to Vice President Sara, giving her 10 days from official receipt to respond to the order. There has been no official statement or reaction from VP Sara’s camp regarding this development.
