Cebu Governor Denies Impeachment Influence Claims

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that she influenced Cebuano lawmakers regarding the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Allegations of Pressure

According to online posts, the governor allegedly pressured congressmen from Cebu during the voting on the Articles of Impeachment. Baricuatro clarified that she had no involvement in the issue and believes it is an intrigue concocted by idle individuals seeking to damage her name or position.

"What can I say. I don't care about them anymore, for me, I have the beat," Baricuatro told the media on May 13, 2026.

Focus on ASEAN Summit

The governor expressed surprise that her name was dragged into the controversy in the capital. She stated that her full attention was on managing the recently concluded 48th ASEAN Summit held in Mactan from May 7 to 8, 2026.

"I was surprised that I got involved in this impeachment when I was not focused on it... My agenda was to make sure our ASEAN was successful because we would be embarrassed here in Cebu if we failed," the governor said.

Pride in Hosting

The successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit is a great pride for Cebuanos, and positive feedback was received from the National Organizing Committee. It is expected that through this world-class event, more tourists will flock to the province to experience its abundant attractions, cuisine, and the hospitality of Cebuanos.

Non-Interference in Legislative Process

Currently, as the impeachment case is now in the Senate, Baricuatro stated that she will not interfere in the legislative process and will remain focused on the development and economy of Cebu Province.
