Cebu City Police Arrest Habal-Habal Driver and Mother in Major Drug Bust

In a significant anti-drug operation, authorities in Cebu City apprehended a habal-habal driver and his mother after confiscating suspected shabu valued at nearly one million pesos. The arrest occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 22, 2026, marking a critical success for local law enforcement.

Details of the Police Operation

The operation was conducted by personnel from the Sawang Calero Police Station 6, part of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), at 12:10 a.m. in Sityo Mahayahay 2, Barangay Pasil. The suspects were identified as alias Awing, a 26-year-old habal-habal driver with a prior drug-related conviction, and alias Virginia, a 55-year-old flower vendor.

According to Police Captain Noah Añana, chief of the Sawang Calero Police Station, the police had been monitoring Awing's activities for several weeks before launching the operation. This surveillance led to a successful undercover purchase of a shabu package worth P300 from the suspect.

Seizure of Illegal Substances

During the arrest, authorities recovered an additional seven large packages of suspected shabu weighing 110.3 grams. Based on the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) valuation, these packages have an estimated street value of P750,040. The total haul from the operation brings the combined value to nearly P750,340, underscoring the scale of the drug trade involved.

Captain Añana revealed that the investigation is ongoing to trace other contacts and sources of the drugs linked to the arrested individuals. This effort aims to dismantle broader networks contributing to illegal drug activities in the region.

Legal Consequences and Current Status

Currently, the mother and son are detained in jail and are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes severe penalties for drug-related offenses, highlighting the serious nature of their alleged crimes.

The arrest highlights the persistent efforts of Cebu City police to combat drug trafficking, particularly in urban areas like Barangay Pasil. It serves as a reminder of the risks associated with illegal drug activities and the legal repercussions for those involved.
