At least 46 barangays across the towns of Consolacion and Liloan, as well as Mandaue City, experienced an emergency power interruption on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following a trip on the Leyte–Cebu transmission line, according to the Visayan Electric Company.
The outage began at 1:05 p.m. after the activation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ System Integrity Protection Scheme, which interrupted power in portions of northern Metro Cebu.
Affected areas included several barangays in Consolacion, Liloan, and Mandaue City, such as Canduman, Cabancalan, Casuntingan, Maguikay, Mantuyong, Nangka, Pagsabungan, Tayud, and Yati, as well as nearby communities. Portions of major thoroughfares like M.C. Briones Avenue, A.C. Cortes Avenue, Cebu North Road, and the Central Nautical Highway were also impacted.
Cause of the Interruption
In its advisory, Visayan Electric stated that the interruption was caused by a transmission issue involving the Leyte–Cebu line. The company apologized for the inconvenience, noting that the outage was beyond its control. “Rest assured that our line maintenance team is doing its best to restore power as soon as possible,” the utility said.
Power Restoration
Power was fully restored at 1:33 p.m., approximately 28 minutes after the emergency interruption began. Visayan Electric also reminded the public to exercise caution near areas undergoing line repairs and maintenance, especially around personnel working with heavy equipment and live wires.
