In a dramatic turn of events, four suspects, two of whom were dismissed policemen, were killed during a high-stakes rescue operation for a kidnap-for-ransom victim in Parañaque on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026. The Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed these details in a press conference held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, shedding light on a case that has gripped the local community.
Details of the Kidnapping and Rescue
The victim, identified as an Indian national who had become a naturalized Filipino businessman, was abducted by the suspects on April 14, 2026. According to PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño, the kidnappers initially demanded a staggering ransom of P50 million in exchange for the victim's safe release. The family of the victim acted swiftly, coordinating with the PNP-Anti Kidnapping Group (AKG) to plan a strategic rescue mission.
On the evening of April 15, the family complied with the suspects' demands by handing over P10 million as ransom. The victim was subsequently released a short distance from where the money was dropped off. This release triggered immediate police operations against the suspects, who were attempting to flee the scene.
Fatal Encounter and Aftermath
As authorities moved in, the suspects sensed their presence and opened fire, leading to a violent encounter. In the ensuing shootout, all four suspects aboard their getaway vehicle were killed. Tragically, one anti-kidnapping operative sustained injuries during the operation. Brigadier General Tuaño provided further insight into the suspects' backgrounds, revealing that two of them were absent without leave (Awol) members of the PNP.
He elaborated, "Suspect No. 2, identified by the AKG, had an outstanding warrant of arrest for a case involving malversation of public funds. The other Awol individual, formerly assigned to the Northern Police District in 2025, was dismissed from the PNP due to an Awol case." Additionally, assorted firearms and police uniforms were discovered inside the suspects' vehicle, raising questions about their previous affiliations and intentions.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating kidnap-for-ransom schemes, particularly when former officers are involved. The PNP has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover any potential links or broader criminal networks.
