The police arrested one mother and one father involved in illegal swertres operations during a week-long anti-illegal gambling campaign in various parts of Cebu province.
Latest Arrests in Badian
The most recent arrests involved two mothers acting as swertres ushers in the municipality of Badian on Friday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The two women issued numbers to a police officer who posed as a bettor. They were arrested after failing to present a government permit proving the legality of their business. Seized from their possession were gambling paraphernalia and bets from the illegal gambling activity.
Arrest in Sibonga
Another usher, alias Fely, 46 years old, married, a resident of Sitio Mangga, Barangay Bahay, Sibonga, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Members of the Sibonga Municipal Police Station and the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) apprehended alias Fely. Confiscated from her were swertres stubs, P50 in bets, a ballpen, carbon paper, and P100 in cash.
Arrest in Danao City
The fourth mother was arrested at 8:31 p.m. on Monday, April 27, in Purok Maya, Sitio Pagutlan, Barangay Maslog, Danao City. Alias Fe, 62, a resident of the said area, was detained at the Danao City Police Station. Alias Fe was known in her area as an illegal swertres number issuer, leading to her arrest through a buy-bust operation. Recovered from her possession were P180 cash, a stub sheet with carbon paper containing many number combinations, a black ballpen, and other gambling paraphernalia.
Arrest in Naga City
The fifth arrested individual was a father at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, in Barangay Inayagan, Naga City. Mar Ababan Hiponia, 43 years old, with a live-in partner from Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla, was arrested by members of the Naga City Police Station.
