Lapu-Lapu City Hall Resumes 4-Day Workweek

Lapu-Lapu City Hall will resume its temporary compressed four-day workweek starting Monday, May 4, 2026, with work hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The four-day schedule was temporarily suspended last week in April due to holidays, prompting a return to the regular five-day operations.

Background of the Compressed Workweek

The compressed workweek was initially implemented on April 13 under Executive Order No. 2026-23-A, signed by Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan, as part of efforts to address the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict. Under the order, if a holiday falls on a Friday, the regular schedule of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM will be followed for that week.

Advisory for Residents and Clients

Due to the continuation of shorter workdays, residents and clients are advised to plan their transactions and complete urgent tasks within the adjusted schedule. The order covers several government offices, but frontline offices such as health, traffic, and environment will maintain regular work hours from Monday to Friday.

Austerity Measures

Earlier, Mayor Chan placed Lapu-Lapu City under a state of preparedness due to expectations that foreign tensions would increase prices of goods and fares locally. The austerity measures focus on daily operational expenses, including a 50 percent reduction in fuel allocation for each department.

Overtime work is suspended for offices operating under the four-day workweek arrangement. However, officials clarified that overtime on Fridays may still be allowed under urgent circumstances, provided there is approval from the mayor and a written justification from the department head. Overtime on weekends, weekdays, and holidays may also be permitted for urgent matters, subject to the mayor's approval and a recommendation from the department head detailing the importance and specific tasks to be performed.
