Leviste Appeals Against Retaliation for Non-Impeachment Votes on VP Sara
Leviste: No Retaliation for Non-Impeachment Votes on VP Sara

Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste has called for no retaliation or punishment against the 63 House members who did not vote to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte. Leviste emphasized that the decision of the congressmen under the democratic process should be respected and should not be used as a basis for any form of retaliation or political pressure.

Call for Respect of Democratic Process

This appeal follows earlier statements alleging intimidation and threats against House members who did not support the impeachment proceedings. Leviste previously stated his opposition to the impeachment, calling it a waste of time and a diversion from more important issues facing Congress.

Impeachment Vote Details

It can be recalled that 257 out of 290 congressmen present in the plenary yesterday voted to impeach VP Sara. Of that number, 25 opposed the motion and nine abstained. Duterte is the first official in Philippine history to be impeached twice by the House of Representatives.
