Tragic Morning Collision Claims Motorcycle Rider's Life
A 35-year-old motorcycle rider lost his life after being involved in a collision with an ambulance in Cebu City during the early hours of Thursday, November 2, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 AM along MJ Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Carreta, according to local authorities.
Victim and Incident Details
The victim has been identified as Richard Estrada Jr., a resident of Barangay Sambag 2 in Cebu City. Investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) revealed through CCTV footage that Estrada was riding his Yamaha Nmax motorcycle along the outer lane coming from Carreta direction.
Meanwhile, the ambulance was traveling from Hipodromo area and had initially stopped due to a red traffic signal. The ambulance was preparing to make a left turn toward A. Soriano Street when the tragedy unfolded.
The Moment of Impact
When the traffic signal turned green, the ambulance proceeded to make its left turn. As it entered the junction box with its blinkers activated, it collided with Estrada's motorcycle, which had just overtaken another motorbike moments earlier.
The impact was severe enough to throw Estrada onto the concrete pavement. The ambulance driver briefly stepped out to check on the victim but quickly returned to the vehicle and drove away from the scene without providing further assistance.
Aftermath and Tragic Outcome
Other motorists who witnessed the accident stopped to help the injured rider and called for assistance from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). Surprisingly, Estrada refused medical treatment at the scene and signed a waiver declining hospital admission.
He was instead taken to his home in Sambag 2. However, his condition deteriorated, and by 3:00 PM that same day, he passed away at his residence. The Special Rescue Force of the Bureau of Fire Protection responded to the emergency call at his home.
The Cebu City Police Office's Traffic Enforcement Unit continues its investigation to identify the ambulance driver who fled after the incident. Authorities are preparing to file charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide against the driver once identified.
