Noted Motorcycle Parts Thief Critically Injured After Citizen's Arrest in Cebu City
The situation of a notorious motorcycle parts thief became critical after he was assisted in a beating by residents when caught stealing on Jasmin Street, Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City, at 2:31 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The suspect, identified as Jerson Villamor, a resident of Cabantan Street, Barangay Luz, sustained multiple bruises and wounds to his body and face.
Police Response and Immediate Actions
According to a report, the Abellana Police Station received a call through their hotline about a thief who was captured and assisted in a beating by people. Upon arrival of responding police officers, they found the suspect with a bleeding face while being held by Police Patrolman John Sarmiento and residents. The suspect was taken to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for immediate medical treatment.
Recovered from Villamor's position were various tools used for removing expensive motorcycle exhausts. Police Major Timothy Jim Romanillos, chief of the Abellana Police Station, stated that Villamor's name had previously emerged as a suspect in a series of exhaust thefts in their area. It was also learned that Villamor had been arrested in February 2025 after being caught by guards stealing helmets at IT Park.
Community Involvement and CCTV Evidence
Councilor Ramir Salonoy of Barangay Kamputhaw revealed to Superbalita Cebu that the suspect had targeted their barangay three times based on obtained CCTV footage. "Three have been hit here in Kamputhaw. What he steals are those motorcycle exhausts. We reviewed the CCTV and immediately got his name, which we reported to the Abellana Police Station," said Salonoy.
Salonoy added that the suspect's modus operandi involves surveilling parked motorcycles and, upon spotting expensive exhausts, immediately stealing them. This incident highlights ongoing issues with motorcycle part thefts in urban areas, prompting community vigilance and police collaboration to address such crimes effectively.
