Malacañang assures protection for Senator Bato Dela Rosa amid ICC warrant
Palace assures protection for Sen. Bato Dela Rosa

Malacañang has responded to Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s appeal to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for protection against an impending arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stated that anyone seeking government protection, including accused individuals like the senator, will receive assistance in accordance with the law.

Government’s Commitment to Due Process

Castro emphasized that even victims of extrajudicial killings (EJK) are also seeking protection from the government. She underscored that every citizen has the right to adequate protection and due process under the law. The Palace assured that if Dela Rosa is arrested, he will be granted all rights afforded to an accused person.

Senate’s Jurisdiction Respected

Castro clarified that President Marcos will not interfere in any matter falling under the jurisdiction of the Senate, as decisions on related issues rest within the Senate’s power and authority. The Palace’s statement aims to balance the executive branch’s support for individuals facing legal challenges while respecting the independence of the legislative body.
