Pampanga Provincial Government Allocates ₱23.76 Million for Barangay Patrol Tricycles
The Pampanga Provincial Government has committed a substantial investment of ₱23.76 million from its Peace and Order Fund to enhance local security measures. This funding is specifically designated for the procurement of 198 barangay patrol tricycles, aimed at bolstering peace and order operations across the province.
Initial Distribution in Lubao Town
In a recent ceremony, 44 of these patrol tricycles were officially turned over to various villages in Lubao town. The event was spearheaded by Governor Lilia Pineda and Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda, who were joined by members of the provincial board and municipal council. During the proceedings, barangay captains received the keys to the vehicles and signed deeds of donation, formalizing the transfer.
Local Manufacturing and Community Involvement
A notable aspect of this initiative is the local production of the tricycle sidecars. According to the Capitol, these sidecars were manufactured through community participation under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Governor Pineda emphasized that local fabricators' associations, which received seed capital through this program, were responsible for the production.
"I am grateful to PBBM and Secretary Gatchalian because these sidecars are a result of community participation. The Sustainable Livelihood Program provided our fellow citizens with the means to produce these sidecars. This is a tremendous help as it has created numerous job opportunities," Pineda stated.
Province-Wide Rollout and Operational Use
The provincial government clarified that the 44 units distributed in Lubao are part of a broader province-wide rollout. This initiative is set to eventually cover all 505 barangays in Pampanga, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Mayor Pineda highlighted the critical need for these vehicles, noting that they will be utilized by Bantay Bayan personnel.
"We urgently need these. We did not even request them—they were voluntarily provided by Nanay for the Bantay Bayan. They are on duty almost 24 hours a day, so it is crucial that they have vehicles for their patrols," the mayor explained.
Objectives and Expected Impact
According to the Capitol, the primary goals of deploying these patrol tricycles are to improve barangay response capabilities, increase visibility in communities, and support peace and order operations throughout Pampanga. This strategic move is expected to enhance public safety and foster a more secure environment for residents.
