Pampanga Launches Patrol Tricycle Initiative to Strengthen Community Security
The Provincial Government of Pampanga has officially deployed 44 units of barangay patrol tricycles, marking a significant step forward in bolstering peace and order efforts across local communities. This initiative aims to provide barangay tanods with reliable transportation for conducting patrol operations in their respective areas, thereby enhancing overall safety and security.
Turnover Ceremony Led by Key Officials
Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, alongside Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Bayan of Lubao, presided over the turnover ceremony in front of the Lubao Municipal Hall on Friday. During the event, barangay captains received the keys to the service vehicles and signed the deed of donation, formalizing the transfer of these essential assets.
Governor Pineda highlighted the community-driven aspect of the project, noting that the sidecars for the tricycles were produced through active community participation. This collaborative effort underscores the province's commitment to involving local residents in initiatives that directly impact their well-being.
Funding and Support from Government Programs
The procurement of these patrol tricycles was made possible through a substantial allocation from the Peace and Order Fund. According to the Pampanga Investment and Promotion Office (PIPO), the Provincial Capitol earmarked ₱23.76 million for the first batch of 198 patrol tricycles. This initial distribution in Lubao represents the beginning of a broader rollout planned across the province.
Furthermore, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) played a crucial role by providing assistance under its Sustainable Livelihood Program. Several associations of trike fabricators in Pampanga received seed capital through this program, enabling them to produce the sidecars and contribute to the local economy.
Expansion Plans and Future Distributions
The provincial government has announced that the distribution of patrol tricycles will continue until all 555 barangays in Pampanga are covered. This phased approach ensures that each community receives the necessary resources to support their barangay tanods in maintaining law and order. The initiative not only addresses immediate security needs but also fosters long-term community resilience.
In a lighter moment during the event, the local government organized a surprise birthday celebration for Governor Pineda, adding a personal touch to the official proceedings. This gesture reflects the strong community bonds and collaborative spirit that underpin the province's governance efforts.
Overall, the deployment of these patrol tricycles represents a proactive measure by the Provincial Government of Pampanga to enhance public safety. By leveraging government funds and community participation, this initiative sets a precedent for sustainable and inclusive approaches to peace and order in the region.
