PNP-HPG Strengthens Night Patrols in Support of Safer Cities Initiative
The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has significantly intensified its patrol operations on streets, particularly during nighttime hours, as part of a robust show of support for the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) Safer Cities Initiative. This initiative focuses on the strict enforcement of local ordinances to enhance public safety and order across urban areas.
Enhanced Patrols Target Traffic Violations on Roxas Boulevard
According to HPG Spokesperson PLt. Nadame Malang, the enhanced patrolling efforts commenced on April 13 along Roxas Boulevard, a location notorious for frequent violations of existing traffic laws. Key among these is Republic Act 4146, commonly known as the "Land Transportation Regulation Act," which governs various aspects of road use and vehicle operations.
During these operations, a common infraction identified involves jeepney drivers operating without headlights, a serious breach that poses significant risks for road accidents, especially in low-light conditions. The HPG has assured the public that their units will continue these operations relentlessly to ensure street safety remains a top priority, even after dark.
Metro Manila Sees Surge in Ordinance Violations
Simultaneously, authorities have documented an alarming tally of at least 75,000 violations within Metro Manila from April 6 to April 13, all linked to local ordinance infractions. On Monday alone, over 7,200 individuals were recorded as violators, with the primary causes including:
- Public drinking on streets, accounting for 2,100 cases
- Curfew violations
- Use of karaoke beyond permitted hours
The Philippine National Police believes that through these intensified operations, the public is becoming more aware of the ordinances they must adhere to, while authorities persistently remind citizens to comply with these laws to avoid disruptions and ensure community safety.
