Special Non-Working Days Set for Asean Summit in Cebu

Malacañang has declared May 6-8, 2026, as special non-working days in Lapu-Lapu City and the Municipality of Cordova in Cebu province, in support of the preparations for the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and related meetings. The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on May 5, 2026.

Ensuring Smooth and Safe Summit

The declaration aims to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the summit, which will be attended by heads of state from 11 Asean member countries. Authorities have also been directed to manage traffic conditions to facilitate faster and more orderly travel for delegates.

Presidential Visit Expected

Aside from the delegates, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Marcos are also expected to visit during the event. The local government has previously announced its readiness in all aspects, especially in emergency situations.

Preparations Underway

Ma. Hellen De La Vega, Director General of the National Organizing Council (NOC), stated that nine committees have been established to address all the needs of the Asean Summit meetings. Among the preparations includes monitoring the weather situation, particularly a Low Pressure Area (LPA) being tracked.
