A 62-year-old widower was hospitalized after being beaten with a 2x2 wood by his son-in-law during a quarrel on the evening of May 3, 2026, in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Sto. Niño, Toledo City.
Victim and Suspect Identified
The victim was identified as Dionisio Ponteras Rebukdad, who sustained a broken leg and multiple bruises. The suspect, Adonis Duran, 52, was immediately arrested by the police.
Investigation Details
According to Police Master Sgt. Richard Oberes of the Toledo Police Station, the victim allegedly entered the suspect's house. Upon entering, he reportedly attacked and attempted to stab the suspect. Adonis dodged and ran away, but Dionisio chased him. Unable to catch up, the victim went wild and broke the side mirror of Adonis's motorcycle.
While the victim was distracted, Adonis managed to get a 2x2 wood and struck his father-in-law repeatedly.
Long-standing Conflict
PMSG Oberes stated that the two had a long-standing conflict, with the victim frequently provoking the suspect prior to the incident. For his part, Adonis claimed he acted in self-defense, as he was attacked first and his life was threatened.
The victim is currently recuperating at Toledo General Hospital, while the suspect is detained and awaiting the filing of appropriate charges.
