Former Senator Revilla Posts P90,000 Bail in Graft Case Over Bulacan Ghost Flood Control Project
Former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. has posted a bail of P90,000 in connection with graft charges related to a controversial P92.8 million ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan. This development occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Fourth Division Clerk of Court of the Sandiganbayan, the anti-graft court handling the case.
Bail Limited to Graft Charges, Malversation Case Pending
However, the bail posted by Revilla applies only to the graft charges. He remains ineligible for release because a separate case of malversation of public funds is still pending against him, which currently has no corresponding bail set. As a result, Revilla continues to be detained at the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, Quezon City, based on a commitment order issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
The former senator is facing both graft and malversation charges through falsification of public documents, with these cases being heard in the Fourth and Third Divisions of the Sandiganbayan, respectively. These legal actions were filed by the Office of the Ombudsman following a thorough investigation conducted in collaboration with the Department of Justice.
Investigation Reveals No Actual Project Completion
During the investigation, authorities found probable cause indicating that the flood control project in Bulacan was declared complete or finished, but no actual work was ever carried out. This discovery has raised serious concerns about the misuse of public funds and the integrity of government infrastructure projects in the region.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption in the Philippines, particularly in large-scale public works. It serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for officials involved in such schemes, as the justice system moves forward with prosecuting those accused of defrauding the state and undermining public trust.
