President Breaks Silence on Sister's Shocking Allegations
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has publicly expressed deep concern about his eldest sister, Senator Imee Marcos, following her explosive accusations that he and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos are drug addicts. The President made these remarks on Monday, November 24, 2025, marking his first public response to the family controversy that has captivated the nation.
Family Worries About Senator's Behavior
President Marcos revealed that family members and close friends have been worried about Senator Imee Marcos for some time. "We do not like to show our dirty linen to the public," the President stated, adding "for a while now we've been very worried about my sister. When I say we, I'm talking about friends and family."
The President emphasized that the person seen making public statements recently doesn't resemble his actual sister. "The lady you see talking on TV is not my sister. That view is shared by our cousins, our friends. Hindi siya yan... That is why we are very worried about her," Marcos explained during his emotional statement.
Senator's Explosive Claims at INC Rally
The controversy stems from Senator Imee Marcos's speech during the Iglesia Ni Cristo rally at Quirino Grandstand on November 17, where she made stunning allegations against her brother and his family. The senator claimed that President Marcos and First Lady Liza have long been "drug addicts" and extended her accusations to include the presidential children.
According to Senator Marcos, her nephew, Ilocos Norte First District Representative Sandro Marcos, and other presidential children were also involved in illegal drug use. She alleged they even offered drugs to other relatives, including her own children.
The senator revealed she had attempted to intervene with her brother's alleged addiction for years, saying she tried to "fix" him but failed because he refused to listen, despite occasionally promising to stop his vices.
Senator Marcos also referenced the 2016 drug list during the former administration's war on drugs, noting that President Marcos's name had appeared on the list. She disclosed that she had personally pleaded with then President Rodrigo Duterte to spare her brother from the consequences.
Broken Family Ties and Political Divisions
President Marcos confirmed that he hasn't spoken directly with his sister about the allegations, indicating a significant rift within the political family. "We no longer travel in the same circles, political or otherwise. So, no," the President stated when asked about communication with his sister.
The public airing of family conflicts marks an unprecedented moment in Philippine politics, with the nation's first family facing internal turmoil that has now spilled into public view. The situation raises questions about how this family dispute might affect the political landscape and governance in the coming months.
President Marcos concluded his remarks with a hopeful note for his sister's wellbeing, stating "I hope she feels better soon," while maintaining his position that the recent behavior doesn't reflect the sister he knows.
