Malacañang has firmly addressed recent drug use allegations made by Senator Imee Marcos against her brother, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., emphasizing that the President remains focused on his governance responsibilities despite the family controversy.
Official Palace Response to Serious Allegations
During a television interview on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Presidential Communications Secretary Dave Gomez stated that President Marcos continues to concentrate on his presidential duties without being distracted by what he described as "wild allegations." Gomez confirmed that the President will not dignify the accusations with a direct response.
"Governance does not stop," Gomez declared. "The challenges we face are enormous, and the President's responsibilities are tremendous. He will not stop working for the country, and he will not dignify any of these baseless allegations currently circulating."
Origin of the Controversial Claims
The controversy stems from statements made by Senator Imee Marcos during an INC rally at Quirino Grandstand on Monday, November 17, 2025. During the event, the President's elder sister publicly claimed that both President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos have long been "drug addicts."
Gomez immediately countered these allegations by referencing historical evidence from the 2022 presidential campaign. "The President underwent a drug test at a reputable hospital, St. Luke's, and the results showed negative for cocaine use," Gomez explained. "More than 30 million Filipinos voted for Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to become president based on his qualifications and character."
Cultural Implications and Administration Stance
The Communications Secretary expressed particular disappointment that the allegations originated from within the President's own family, noting the unusual nature of such public accusations in Filipino culture. "It's saddening that this comes from one's own sibling," Gomez stated. "This is very unusual in our Filipino culture, which is why the President will not dignify these claims with a response."
In a separate interview, Palace Press Officer Attorney Claire Castro reinforced the administration's position, confirming that resignation is not being considered despite the personal distress the allegations may have caused the President. "The President continues working and will keep working for the country," Castro affirmed. "Resignation is not an option for the administration or the President."
The Palace officials emphasized that the administration remains unified and focused on addressing national concerns, with the President demonstrating unwavering commitment to his duties despite personal challenges within the family.
