Cebu Hires 325 Medical Staff to End Hospital Shortages, Boost Care
Cebu Hires 325 New Hospital Staff to Improve Healthcare

The Cebu Provincial Government has launched a major initiative to strengthen its public healthcare system by deploying 325 newly hired medical and non-medical personnel across ten hospitals it manages. This significant reinforcement, announced in early January 2026, aims to solve the long-standing problem of worker shortages and substantially improve health services for residents throughout the entire province.

Major Staff Deployment Across Provincial Hospitals

The distribution of the new hires targets facilities with the most critical needs. Leading the list is the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City, which received a boost of 50 staff members. Following closely are the Bantayan District Hospital with 48 new personnel and the Tuburan District Hospital with 45. The other hospitals that benefited from this hiring surge include:

  • Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital in Camotes (33 staff)
  • Barili District Hospital (33 staff)
  • Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao (28 staff)
  • Oslob District Hospital (28 staff)
  • Juan B. Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod (24 staff)
  • M.J. Cuenco Memorial Hospital in Malabuyoc (22 staff)
  • Minglanilla District Hospital (14 staff)

Addressing Chronic Shortages and Improving Patient Care

For years, these provincial hospitals have struggled with severe understaffing. This forced existing healthcare workers to carry excessive workloads and, at times, led to delays in patient treatment. Health officials explain that the influx of new doctors, nurses, and support staff is expected to have an immediate and positive impact on several key areas.

The primary goals are to reduce patient backlogs, strengthen emergency care capabilities, and enhance access to specialized medical services. This is particularly crucial for towns and remote communities that have long suffered from limited health resources. With more hands on deck, patient care is anticipated to become faster and hospital services can be expanded, reaching even the most isolated areas of Cebu.

A Step Toward Sustainable Provincial Healthcare

This strategic hiring of 325 professionals represents a concrete step by the Capitol to invest in the backbone of its public health infrastructure. By directly tackling the manpower deficit, the province is not just alleviating the burden on overworked staff but is fundamentally upgrading the quality and reach of its medical services. The move signals a commitment to ensuring that all Cebuanos, regardless of their location, have access to timely and adequate healthcare.
