DepEd Lapu-Lapu orders schools to strengthen safety measures

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Lapu-Lapu City has directed all public and private elementary and secondary schools to strengthen safety and security measures on campus.

Division Memorandum No. 436

In Division Memorandum No. 436, Series of 2026 dated June 23, 2026, Schools Division Superintendent Marilyn Andales instructed school heads to conduct a comprehensive review of existing safety and security protocols and ensure strict compliance with DepEd Order No. 6, s. 2026.

Bag inspections required

One of the key provisions of the memorandum is the implementation of regular inspections of bags carried by students, personnel, and visitors entering the school. The inspections must be conducted using non-contact methods such as full-body electronic scanners, bag scanners, handheld metal detectors, and search sticks.

School administrators are also required to implement monthly random bag inspections for all grade levels. These inspections must follow a formal Random Routine Bag Inspection School Plan, which must be submitted to Andales through the Schools Governance and Operations Division–Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

CCTV and community involvement

The memorandum encourages schools to ensure that all closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are functioning, to add more cameras if necessary, and to collaborate with Parents-Teachers Associations to strengthen community participation in school security efforts.
