DOH-3 Intensifies Drive vs Vaccine Hesitancy

The Department of Health Region III (DOH-3) has announced intensified community engagement efforts to combat vaccine hesitancy amid persistent misinformation about immunization. The agency noted that doubts regarding vaccine safety continue to affect turnout rates in some areas, prompting health officials to bolster public education campaigns.

Localized Technical Sessions

Divina Rae Bermudez, DOH-3 Child Health Medical Coordinator, explained that the agency’s Health Promotion and Communications Management units are conducting technical sessions targeting barangay officials, health workers, and community leaders. “We call these localized technical sessions where we involve barangay leaders and health workers to properly explain the importance of vaccines,” Bermudez said.

Vaccine Champions

The department has enlisted “vaccine champions” composed of healthcare workers, mothers, and community members to encourage immunization in their respective areas. “Our vaccine champions are not only health workers. We also have mothers and community members helping to persuade other parents,” she added.

Priority on Childhood Immunization

DOH-3 emphasized that childhood immunization remains a priority under the government’s efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and disease prevention. The agency assured the public that vaccines distributed in health centers undergo strict cold chain management and continuous monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. Health workers receive regular training on proper vaccine handling, administration, and monitoring of possible adverse effects.

“Our vaccines go through strict monitoring and proper temperature management to ensure their safety,” Bermudez stated. She stressed that vaccines remain among the most effective ways to prevent serious illnesses and complications among children. “Vaccines are a form of protection and love for our children because they help prevent diseases and complications,” she added.

Call for Accurate Information

The agency urged parents to seek accurate information from legitimate medical and government sources and to coordinate with local health centers for vaccination schedules and child health services. By strengthening community engagement and leveraging trusted voices, DOH-3 aims to rebuild confidence in immunization programs and protect public health.
