Fire, Police Stations Near Davao's Victoria Plaza to Be Relocated for New Development
Fire, Police Stations Near Davao Plaza to Relocate

Davao City Councilor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. announced that the fire station and police station located near the former Victoria Plaza will be demolished to make way for the property's redevelopment by its new owners. The disclosure was made during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Relocation Plans Underway

Quitain clarified that the two emergency service stations are not being removed permanently but are merely being relocated to new sites. The previous owner of Victoria Plaza, the NCCC Group, has identified two alternative locations free of charge where the new fire and police stations will be constructed. The police station will be transferred beside the McDonald's branch near Victoria Plaza, while the fire station will be moved to another NCCC property in Cabaguio. The proposed sites have already been inspected, and the city government has expressed its approval.

"My committee is finalizing the paperwork for that, but the construction is being done," Quitain stated, emphasizing that the process is moving forward smoothly.

City's Gratitude for Past Support

Quitain noted that the city was fortunate that the previous owners of Victoria Plaza allowed the local government to use a portion of the property for the construction of a fire station and police station, which served the surrounding community during emergencies. He also recalled how Victoria Plaza became an iconic landmark and one of the most memorable destinations for Dabawenyos over the decades.

Victoria Plaza's Legacy and Transition

After more than 32 years as Davao City's first and oldest mall, Victoria Plaza officially closed its doors on December 31, 2025. The mall's closure was marked by a farewell walk and tour on December 30, 2025, organized by renowned photographer Jojie Alcantara in partnership with NCCC. Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) is set to take over the 9.6-hectare property in 2026, signaling a new chapter for the site.

Victoria Plaza Commercial Center was inaugurated and blessed on March 16, 1993. Built and managed by Davao Sunrise Investment & Development Corporation, the mall's opening drew hundreds of Dabawenyos, making it one of the city's top shopping destinations during its prime. The redevelopment plans reflect the evolving landscape of Davao City's commercial and public service infrastructure.
