In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) brought early Christmas joy to a remote village in Negros Occidental. The outreach activity, personally led by PRO-NIR director Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, took place in Barangay Latasan, E.B. Magalona, on December 22, 2025.
Bringing Smiles to a Remote Community
The police initiative specifically targeted Barangay Latasan, a community chosen for its remote location and the unique challenges faced by its residents. In close coordination with Barangay Captain Merlinda Dioneo and with support from the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, the team successfully accommodated at least 100 children.
Each child received a bundle of gifts and treats, including toys, slippers, burgers, ice cream, and a small amount of cash. The event transformed the barangay into a scene of festive celebration, filled with the joyful laughter of children and the grateful smiles of their families.
Beyond Law Enforcement: A Mission of Compassion
Brigadier General Ibay emphasized that the PRO-NIR gift-giving activity reflects the deeper purpose of police service. He stated that their duty extends far beyond the enforcement of laws and is fundamentally anchored in humanity, compassion, and genuine public service.
"Even the simplest acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact," Ibay remarked. He added that the true spirit of the holidays shines brightest when communities unite in generosity and shared compassion.
Echoing this sentiment, Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the PRO-NIR Public Information Office, explained the drive's core objective. "The initiative sought to bring joy, support, and a sense of care to children and families," Malong said. "It ensures that the holiday spirit reaches every corner and touches the lives of those who may have fewer opportunities to celebrate."
Strengthening Bonds and Nurturing Trust
The residents of Barangay Latasan warmly welcomed the police team, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their presence and the gesture of care. The event served as a powerful reminder that effective public service is not solely about maintaining peace and order.
It is equally about nurturing trust, demonstrating compassion, and actively contributing to community welfare. The successful outreach reinforced the message that the police are reliable partners in building a more caring and united society.
As the holiday season continues, PRO-NIR reaffirms its commitment to such community-focused programs. Through acts of kindness like the gift-giving in Barangay Latasan, the organization highlights that the essence of the season is found in the joy of giving and the love shared, proving that even small gestures can light up lives and warm hearts.
