For Grade 12 TVL student-athlete Nicole Pogoy, the final buzzer of the season marked the end of a transformative three-year journey with Babag National High School's basketball program. She not only helped the team capture historic championships but also left a legacy of leadership and perseverance.
From No Court to Champions
When Pogoy first joined the team three years ago, the program faced severe challenges: no proper court, limited facilities, and difficulty holding regular practices. Despite these obstacles, the players remained committed to their passion.
Pogoy reflected, "From having no proper court to becoming champions, our story proves that success is not determined by resources but by heart, determination, and belief."
Overcoming Setbacks
Pogoy's journey was marked by adversity. In 2024, as captain of the school's 5x5 basketball team, she experienced a tough loss. The following years also tested the team's resilience, especially in 3x3 basketball, where victories were rare.
Rather than letting disappointments define her, Pogoy used them as motivation. This year, she again accepted the captaincy, leading through discipline, daily training, and relentless commitment.
Historic Achievements
The results were groundbreaking. The team won both the City Palaro and the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) championships. This marked Babag National High School's first-ever Cviraa title in 3x3 basketball, earning them the right to represent Central Visayas on a larger stage.
"The pressure was immense, but I embraced it. I trained on my own, went for daily jogs, stayed disciplined, and worked hard even when nobody was watching," Pogoy said.
A Lasting Legacy
Beyond the medals, Pogoy's greatest contribution is the example she sets for future athletes. Her story underscores that success is built through perseverance, leadership, and belief in a common goal.
As a graduate, Nicole Pogoy leaves behind a legacy of sacrifice and determination that will inspire Babag athletes for years to come. Her final season may be over, but the impact of her last ball will echo through the halls and courts of Babag National High School.
