Suganob defeats world-ranked Yohana in Bohol boxing

Suganob's Masterclass Performance in Tagbilaran

Filipino boxer Regie Suganob delivered a spectacular performance on Saturday night, November 22, 2025, convincingly defeating world-ranked Tanzanian fighter Mchanja Yohana in the main event of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions' "Kumong Bol-anon XXIII." The bout took place at the PMI Main Campus Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, where Suganob demonstrated his superior skills over ten dominant rounds.

One-Sided Victory Sets Stage for World Title Ambitions

From the opening bell, it became evident that Yohana respected Suganob's power, choosing to move around the ring rather than engage directly. The Tanzanian boxer, ranked No. 6 by the WBO in the flyweight division, struggled to find answers to Suganob's technical superiority throughout the contest.

In the final round, Suganob intensified his attack, wobbling Yohana on multiple occasions. However, the resilient Tanzanian survived by employing evasive tactics, running around the ring to avoid further damage until the final bell.

"I was aware that he would run, but I still didn't become too complacent because he might hit me with a lucky punch," said the 28-year-old Suganob after the fight. "I caught him with some solid punches; he ran every time. He told me after the fight that I had power in my punches."

All three judges scored the bout identically at 99-91 in favor of Suganob, reflecting his complete control of the match.

Road to World Championship Gold

With this impressive victory, Suganob improves his professional record to 17-1 with six knockouts, while Yohana falls to 22-7-1 with 15 knockouts. More importantly, the win positions Suganob for a potential world title opportunity in 2026.

Suganob currently holds strong rankings across multiple sanctioning bodies:

  • No. 4 in the WBO light-flyweight division
  • No. 9 by the World Boxing Council (WBC)
  • No. 11 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF)

According to Floriezyl Echavez Podot, head of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions, Suganob will return to the ring in February against another world-rated opponent before pursuing an interim title fight, potentially by June 2026.

"Hopefully, we get a world title fight next year," Podot stated. "We are going to fight another world-rated opponent in February and then request an interim title fight, maybe by June. Regie is also expected to move up in the IBF. Whichever opportunity comes first, we'll take it."
