In a spectacular display of boxing prowess, Boholano fighter Regie Suganob delivered a masterclass performance against world-ranked Tanzanian boxer Mchanja Yohana during the main event of Kumong Bol-anon XXIII. The thrilling match took place on Saturday evening, November 22, 2025, at the PMI Main Campus Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Dominant Performance by Suganob
The one-time world title challenger from Bohol completely controlled the fight from start to finish. Suganob revealed after the match that he had intended to score a knockout against his Tanzanian opponent, but Yohana's evasive tactics prevented the dramatic finish. The three judges unanimously scored the bout 99-91, all in favor of the local favorite.
Suganob shared his strategy during post-fight comments: "I was aware that he would run away. But I didn't get overconfident because you never know when you might get caught. I just timed my shots, and when he felt solid punches, he really started running."
Tanzanian Boxer Admits Power Difference
In a surprising admission, Yohana personally approached Suganob after the fight and acknowledged the power behind the Boholano's punches. According to Suganob, Yohana specifically mentioned "power, power" as the reason he avoided engaging directly, fearing the counterpunches from the Dauis, Bohol native.
The victory improves Suganob's professional record to 17 wins with only 1 loss and 6 knockouts, while Yohana's record drops to 22 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw, and 15 knockouts.
Future Title Opportunities
Suganob's manager, Atty. Floriezyl Echavez Podot, who also heads PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions, announced exciting plans for the boxer's future. Suganob is scheduled to fight another world-rated opponent in February next year, with potential world title opportunities on the horizon.
Podot confirmed they have been communicating with the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and that Suganob is also expected to move up in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) rankings. "We just followed what the WBO said. We have been communicating with the president through email. Regie is also expected to move up in the IBF. Whichever opportunity comes first, we'll take it," Podot explained.
The promotion also featured several other notable fights:
- Leonard Pores III (9-0, 7 KOs) won the vacant IBF Youth flyweight title against Kiyoto Narukami
- Sherwin Dacullo (5-1-1, 2 KOs) captured the Philippine Games and Amusements Board Youth minimumweight belt against Freshler Utrera
- Undercard winners included Virgel Vitor, Gerwin Asilo, Jericho Acaylar, and Jick-Kier Autida
The successful event continues to establish Bohol as a growing hub for professional boxing in the Philippines, with local fighters demonstrating their capability to compete at international levels.
