The Dumanjug basketball team showcased composure and sharp execution to defeat host team Malabuyoc in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals of the Calderon Cup 21-Under Inter-Town Basketball Tournament on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Malabuyoc Sports Complex. Despite strong crowd support for their opponents, Dumanjug emerged victorious, setting the stage for an exciting Game 2.
Key Performances
Jhun Miguel Telmo delivered a double-double performance with 19 points, including two three-pointers, and 18 rebounds. TJ Tejedor also contributed 18 points, while Cleveron Jay Fernandez added 10 points and three assists. These three players were instrumental in securing the win for Dumanjug.
Game 2 Preview
Tonight, Dumanjug, under coach Nilo Quirante, will attempt to wrap up the series and become the first-ever champion of the Calderon Cup. The tournament is part of the grassroots development program of Congresswoman Patsy Calderon in Cebu Province’s seventh district. Malabuyoc, despite the loss, remains hopeful of extending the series to a deciding Game 3 and bringing it back to their home court.
After the game, the Dumanjug team, along with Gungun Gica, posed with Congresswoman Patsy Calderon and some of the 7th District Mayors to commemorate the occasion.
