The newly renovated Cebu Coliseum is one of four venues in Cebu City that will host the highly anticipated Sinag Liga Asya (SLA) Junior World Showcase basketball tournament from July 1 to 5, 2026.
No Teams Withdraw Despite Middle East Crisis
Amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, not a single team from other countries has withdrawn from participating in the SLA Junior World Showcase. SLA Chairman Rocky Chan confirmed that all foreign teams are excited not only about joining the competition but also about visiting the Queen City of the South.
"The teams, especially our international delegates, have high expectations for the Cebu leg of our tournaments despite the war crisis. Nothing has changed, and not a single team from our international group has pulled out," Chan said. "They are also excited to have a glimpse of Cebu with their families during their stay."
Tournament Details
This tournament, one of the biggest basketball events to be held in Cebu, will feature rising basketball players from various parts of the Philippines competing against their counterparts from other countries. The foreign teams coming to Cebu are from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and United Arab Emirates.
The five-day tournament is divided into several age categories: 13-under, 15-under, 17-under, 19-under, and 23-under.
Venues
The venues to be used for the tournament are the New Cebu Coliseum, Magnum Sports Complex, University of San Carlos (USC) main campus gym, and Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay.
"Expect an exciting weeklong of grassroots basketball and expect a high level of tough competitions by all the teams. All the venues are free for the public to come and watch the world play in all our game venues," Chan added.
