Filipina5 Vow Comeback After 0-6 FIFA Futsal World Cup Loss to Poland
Philippines Learns from 0-6 Futsal World Cup Defeat

The Philippine women's futsal team, known as the Filipina5, refused to be discouraged by their opening 0-6 defeat against Poland in the FIFA Futsal Women's World Cup 2025. Instead, they're using the experience as valuable fuel for their upcoming crucial match against Morocco.

Turning Defeat into Determination

Facing the world's 14th-ranked Poland team at PhilSports Arena on Friday, the 63rd-ranked host nation kept the game competitive through the first 20 minutes, trailing by just two goals. The energetic home crowd of over 2,200 supporters, including Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio, and Philippine Football Federation President John Gutierrez, provided thunderous support throughout the match.

Co-captain Isabella Flanigan emphasized the team's resilient mindset, stating they will learn from the experience but not let it affect their next performance. "I know going into the next match, we're going to take everything from this game, learn from it, but then put it behind us. That is not wearing us down for the next," Flanigan declared.

Second Half Surge Seals Outcome

The match remained within reach until Poland unleashed a scoring barrage in the second half. Julia Szostak opened the second-half scoring in the 23rd minute, followed by Julia Basta completing her brace just one minute later. The situation worsened when Pinay Lanie Ortillo accidentally scored an own goal for Poland, and Klaudia Dyminska wrapped up the scoring in the 30th minute.

The Filipina5 nearly scored first in the match when co-captain Inday Tolentin's clear shot at the fifth minute hit the post. Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Tolentin remained optimistic: "Maybe it just wasn't the time for me to score yet, but I'll work even harder in the next game."

Lessons Learned for Morocco Clash

Philippine coach Rafa Merino believed the game could have unfolded differently if early chances had been converted. "I think if we had converted some of those early chances, the game would have changed a little bit more in our favor because it would give us a little more fuel, and I think we would have made Poland doubt," Merino analyzed.

Tolentin expressed pride in her team's fighting spirit despite the disappointing result. "I know this isn't the result we wanted, but I'm proud of what our team did, and we fought until the end. This is our lesson on how we can step up in the next game," she stated in Filipino.

The Filipina5 now prepare to face Morocco on Monday, November 24, 2025, in what promises to be a crucial Group A encounter. Morocco also suffered an opening 0-6 defeat against Argentina, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown between two teams hungry for their first World Cup victory.
