Filipino tennis sensation Alexandra Eala continued her impressive run on the WTA Tour, advancing to the second round of the WTA 500 HSBC Championships after a commanding victory over China's Zhang Shuai, 6-3, 6-2, on Tuesday night (Philippine time) at The Queens Club in London, Great Britain.
Eala's Rising Star
Eala, who recently climbed to a career-high World No. 33 following her triumph at the Birmingham Open, showcased her formidable skills against Zhang. The 21-year-old left-hander dominated from the baseline, breaking Zhang's serve three times in each set to seal the win in just over an hour.
This victory sets up a second-round clash with sixth-seeded American Iva Jovic, who defeated Croatian Antonia Ruzic, 6-3, 6-4. Eala will be seeking redemption after suffering a 4-6, 2-6 first-round loss to Jovic at the French Open last month.
