Badian and Moalboal Dominate in Calderon Cup Under-21 Basketball Tournament
The 1st Calderon Cup Under-21 basketball tournament kicked off with thrilling action on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Badian Sports Complex in Badian, Cebu. Host team Badian and Moalboal both delivered impressive performances, securing decisive victories in their respective matches.
Badian's Hard-Fought Victory Over Ginatilan
In a closely contested game, Badian emerged victorious with a 92-77 win against Ginatilan. The match saw a standout performance from James Ivan Alvizo, who led the charge with 26 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and six steals. Clifford Belarmino contributed 14 points, while Clark Aron Bulahan recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ginatilan started strong, taking a 24-17 lead in the first quarter. However, Badian fought back with a 12-4 run, moving ahead 29-28 after a layup by Lei Beltram Abranilla in the second quarter. The game remained tight, with the lead changing 11 times, but Badian managed to maintain a 62-57 advantage by the end of the third quarter.
Ginatilan attempted a comeback, cutting the lead to 66-64 after a basket by John Luis Mansueto. Yet, a quick 6-0 run by Belarmino and Bulahan sealed the victory for Badian. For Ginatilan, Jigger Biligantol led with 16 points, supported by John Rusell Gosanes with 15 points and James Miguel Tuason with 13 points.
Moalboal's Commanding Win Against Alcantara
In the first game of the tournament, Moalboal dominated Alcantara with a 79-57 win. As one of the top teams in the event organized by Cebu 7th District Representative Patricia "Patsy" Calderon, Moalboal quickly established control, building a massive 49-22 lead and never looking back.
Leo Talledo led Moalboal with 15 points, along with seven rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Jhon Ryan Abines added 11 points, while Jeremar Calanilao contributed 10 points. For Alcantara, Yuro Fuentes posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, with Eiam Zyann and Humphrey Gador chipping in 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Upcoming Matches and Tournament Outlook
