3 Chinese Nationals Arrested in Angeles City Scam Raid

Three Chinese nationals were arrested after authorities raided an alleged scam hub operating inside an apartment in Angeles City on Monday night.

Coordinated Operation

The operation was conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Organized and Transnational Crimes Division in coordination with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit (FSU). The suspects were allegedly involved in online scam activities targeting foreign nationals and Filipinos.

Small-Scale Setup

The trio were reportedly caught at their workstations inside the apartment. NBI Director Melvin Matibag described the operation as a small-scale setup, comparing it to kitchen-type shabu labs. He emphasized that this is part of ongoing efforts to pursue small breakaway groups from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

According to the NBI and BI-FSU, the suspects were former members of large POGO hubs who later formed smaller groups to continue illegal operations. Authorities noted that the group used tactics to avoid detection, such as staying in residential areas and blending into the community.

Rendel Sy, BI-FSU Chief, stated that the suspects had Filipina partners and their workstations were immediately visible upon entry. He explained that their operations are fragmented, with one group involved in money laundering and another responsible for calling clients, indicating a large-scale operation when pieced together.

The raiding team recovered computers, mobile phones, and other equipment allegedly used in the activities. Authorities said the suspects would be deported if no local criminal charges are filed against them.
