French Tourist Injured by Dangling Telecommunications Cable in Alegria, Cebu
Authorities in Alegria, Cebu, reported a distressing incident involving a foreign visitor on a popular tourist route. A 33-year-old French tourist was injured when his motorcycle became entangled with a low-hanging telecommunications cable along the Balhaan–Madridejos road, which leads toward the well-known destination of Moalboal.
Details of the Accident and Immediate Response
According to Jerome Reazon of the Alegria Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), the accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. An initial investigation by the MDRRMO revealed that the rider was traveling along the road when the cable, which was not immediately visible, struck and wrapped around his neck.
The sudden entanglement caused him to lose balance and be thrown off his motorcycle. The victim sustained abrasions on his neck and left knee as a result of the fall. Reazon confirmed that the tourist was promptly transported to the Badian District Hospital for medical evaluation to assess his injuries.
Safety Measures and Community Alert
In response to the incident, the dangling wire was immediately cut to eliminate the immediate danger. The telecommunications provider responsible for the cable was notified to address the hazard and prevent future occurrences.
The MDRRMO has issued a strong reminder to both residents and visitors, urging them to promptly report hanging cables, damaged utility lines, and other hazardous road conditions.
