Philippines Advances Digital Leadership with AI and Infrastructure Deals

In a significant move to bolster the nation's digital economy, officials from InfiniVAN Inc., a broadband service provider registered with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), along with Gnani Innovations Private Limited and IPS Pro, signed a trilateral agreement on Monday, March 2, 2026, at a hotel in Makati City. This partnership focuses on an artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure project designed to enhance customer service engagement and support through cutting-edge AI technology.

Boost for Data Center Attraction

Simultaneously, the Philippines' efforts to attract major data center players received a substantial boost from an ongoing $31 million high-grade cable landing station (CLS) in Baler, Aurora. This project, led by a Filipino and Japanese-owned telecommunications firm, aims to improve internet access and capacity across the country.

During a media interview on Monday, Alberto Espedido, Chief Technology Officer of InfiniVAN, confirmed that construction for the Baler CLS is currently underway and is targeted for completion within the year. The facility, which broke ground on August 6, 2025, at Suklayin-Buhangin Road in Baler, Aurora, will connect to other submarine digital lines overnight to provide faster internet access.

Expanded Budget and Capacity

Espedido revealed that the project initially had a budget of $16 million, but an expansion plan was proposed during the construction month, adding $15 million to the total. This expanded project will now have the capacity to carry up to five international submarine fiber optic systems, significantly increasing data throughput.

He noted that InfiniVAN currently operates two international submarine systems, one in Aurora province and another in La Union, which are expected to deliver multiple terabytes of capacity for data flowing in and out of the Philippines. "There are several confidential projects like data centers, and they will need this particular facility," Espedido emphasized.

Government Support and Vision

Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda earlier stated that this initiative aligns with the government's National Broadband Plan and supports the goal of establishing the Philippines as a digital leader in the Asia Pacific region. The combination of AI-driven customer service enhancements and robust digital infrastructure is seen as a key step toward achieving this vision.

The trilateral agreement and cable landing station expansion underscore a concerted push to modernize the country's telecommunications landscape, fostering innovation and economic growth through improved connectivity and technological integration.
