Angeles City Government Empowers Farmers with New Agricultural Initiatives

The City Government of Angeles, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo Jon Lazatin II, has officially handed over two significant agricultural projects to local farmers. These initiatives, approved by the Department of Agriculture (DA), were launched at the City Agriculture Office on Thursday, marking a pivotal step in boosting the city's agricultural sector.

Enhancing Local Agriculture Through Strategic Projects

The city government emphasized that these projects are designed to empower a wide range of stakeholders, including local farmers, indigenous communities, and coffee producers across Angeles City. By providing essential resources and support, the initiatives aim to foster sustainable development and economic growth in the region.

Details of the Coffee Processing Project

The Coffee Processing Project offers a comprehensive suite of LGU-managed equipment and facilities to assist coffee farmers. Key resources include:

  • A hauling truck for efficient transport
  • A coffee pulper and roaster for processing
  • Stainless steel tables and shelving units
  • A vacuum packing machine and impulse sealer for packaging
  • Crates for storage and handling

These tools enable coffee farmers, particularly those from indigenous groups, to process their crops at reduced costs, minimize post-harvest losses, and significantly increase their income. Additionally, the project distributed approximately 3,000 coffee seedlings, organic neem-extract pesticides, and water retention gel to beneficiary farmers, promoting sustainable and resilient coffee production practices.

Overview of the Corn & Cassava Production Support Project

Simultaneously, the Corn & Cassava Production Support Project equips farmers with essential agricultural inputs to enhance productivity and climate resilience. The local government highlighted that this project provides:

  • Knapsack sprayers for efficient application
  • Fertilizers to enrich soil quality
  • Foliar inputs to boost crop health

This support is expected to help farmers adopt more sustainable and productive farming methods, contributing to long-term agricultural stability in the area.

Mayor Lazatin's Vision for a Stronger Angeles City

Mayor Lazatin articulated that these projects are integral to the city government's broader strategy to enhance food security, improve farmer livelihoods, and stimulate economic growth. He stated, We are committed to supporting our farmers because their hard work sustains our communities. Through these projects, we provide the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to help our coffee growers and farmers thrive. Every seed planted, every crop harvested, is a step toward a stronger, more resilient Angeles City.
