Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival's first year in office has been marked by natural disasters and urban challenges, but his administration continues to prioritize public health services and key development projects, including the completion of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).
First Year Challenges
In an interview on Monday, June 1, in Barangay Cambinocot, Archival recalled that his term, which reaches its first year on June 30, 2026, faced immediate tests. "When I assumed office, we were immediately faced with an earthquake, a typhoon and a landslide," he said. The city also grappled with flooding, traffic congestion, and sectoral concerns, often leading to sleepless nights as overlapping problems required urgent attention.
CCMC Progress
Archival expressed optimism that the long-delayed CCMC project would be completed by December 2026. Phase 5, covering the fourth to seventh floors, resumed in February, with completion targeted within the year. The mayor emphasized that substantial progress has been made on the hospital, which remains a top priority for the City Government.
Infrastructure and Sustainability
The administration is improving six government buildings, including the legislative and executive buildings at City Hall. The Department of Manpower Development and Placement building is a priority due to its large area and heavy use by nursing students. Upgrades include better ventilation, water supply, and overall conditions as part of a long-term plan to make government facilities more efficient and comfortable.
Solar Panels and Electric Vehicles
This week, the City will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for solar panels installed at the legislative and executive buildings. Six government buildings are targeted for solar installation, including the Eco Station and Bagsakan area. Additionally, the City has procured six electric vehicles and two electric buses as part of its clean transportation program, which Archival hopes will be operational by the end of 2026.
