The Cebu City Department of General Services–Energy Conservation Office launched a P24,139,500 solar street lighting project on June 24, 2026, to upgrade lighting along Governor Cuenco Avenue. The project involves installing 350 solar-powered street light poles, which the city expects will generate annual electricity savings of approximately P4.2 million, starting as early as September 2026.
Project Details and Scope
The project will cover the stretch from the Ayala Flyover to the Talamban Barangay Hall. Each pole stands eight meters high and is equipped with 18,000-lumen LED fixtures. The poles will be placed approximately 30 meters apart to maximize illumination and enhance road safety along one of Cebu City's busiest thoroughfares.
The procurement package includes free installation services, technical assistance, and a minimum five-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and maintenance of the system.
Expected Energy Savings
Records from the Department of General Services show that the existing 484 conventional streetlights along Governor Cuenco Avenue currently cost the city government more than P4 million annually in electricity expenses. According to Senorita Marie Trece Flores, Cebu City's designated Energy Conservation Officer, the solar lighting system is projected to generate savings of approximately P350,000 per month, or about P4.2 million annually.
Flores said the Cebu City Government could begin realizing those savings as early as September 2026, noting that initial installations have already been completed. The entire project is expected to be fully operational within six months.
