ZAMBOANGA. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Pamana Livelihood Program (PLP), provided financial assistance to beneficiaries from several People's Livelihood Program Associations (PLPAs) in Zamboanga del Sur on June 16, 2026.
The 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) reported that this initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to foster peace, sustainable development, and socio-economic empowerment. According to a statement from the 53IB, the program reflects the government's steadfast commitment to supporting former rebels and conflict-affected communities in rebuilding their lives and becoming productive members of society.
Among the recipients were members of the 53IB Friends Rescued Goodlife Agriculture Cooperative PLPA. The Friends Rescued group consists of former rebels who surrendered to the 53IB to reunite with their families and pursue peaceful lives.
Other beneficiaries included the Labangan Women Empowerment PLPA, Labangan Youth PLPA, Masandag Balay Subanen PLPA, and Saad Matapat Farmers PLPA. The 53IB noted that the financial assistance grant is part of the government's broader peace-building and reintegration strategy.
