Lineman Dies in Electrocution While Fixing Power Lines in Bohol

A lineman from the Bohol Electric Cooperative died after being electrocuted while repairing power lines in Barangay Ilihan, Ubay, Bohol on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at around 8:10 a.m.

Victim Identified

The victim was identified as John Marwel Lacaran, 29, married, a resident of Sityo Campo, Barangay Pagahat, Alicia, Bohol.

Incident Details

According to Police Staff Sergeant Randy Toyor, investigator of the Ubay Municipal Police Station, the victim received a phone call from their office instructing him to trace a power line due to a brownout in the area.

The victim's wife revealed during an interview with investigators that Lacaran left their home in Alicia past 6:00 a.m. and went to Ubay to trace the power line.

However, as he climbed the post using a ladder, he was suddenly electrocuted. Residents heard a loud explosion from the post and saw the victim clinging to it.

His fellow linemen quickly responded and attempted to rescue him, but when they retrieved his body, he was no longer moving.

The Ubay PNP called the Telephone and Radio System Integrated Emergency Response (TaRSIER 117) and brought the victim to Don Emilio Del Valle Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
